Baby Jacobs Birth
Just wanted to send you an official announcement and and huge thank you for enabling us to bring our baby Jacob into the world as calmly as possible.
Jacob John was born at home on Monday 13th February at 5.50am weighing a mighty 9lbs 13! Not sure that was part of the plan! So, so pleased we got to have our Homebirth though. It was incredibly hard work but being at home really made a massive difference to how relaxed I was able to remain. That and the hypnobirthing techniques you taught us really came into their own.
My waters released at 6.30pm Sunday evening with surges gradually following at about 7.30pm. I had the rainbow relaxation cd on a loop to help keep me relaxed and get me into the zone. Luckily I was able to get into the pool at about 11pm and had to really concentrate on using the surge breathing. When I was able to do it, it was really effective at helping me cope with the surges. I basically stayed in the pool right until the end when I had a bit of gas and air. I did have to get out of the pool to deliver him though due to a gush of blood, during the 2nd stage. I was having the natural expulsive reflex that you’d taught us about and could feel baby moving downwards so I knew it wouldn’t be long until he was here. On getting out of the pool, (not without some difficulty!) with the next surge his head was born, I wasn’t getting another surge, so with Tom supporting me in the squatting position I had to bear down and with that the rest of his body emerged! He was a little bit blue- and the cord was loosely around his neck- but he scored 8 on the Apgar scale at 1 min and 10 at 5 mins. We got to have immediate skin to skin and I was able to have a natural 3rd stage. We waited for the cord to stop pulsing and the placenta came out easily shortly afterwards. I did have a shot of syntometrine as advised by the midwives as I’d lost a bit of blood, which I agreed too.
It’s been a bit of whirlwind of emotions since, but we slowly seem to be emerging from the baby haze! I know that I wouldn’t have been able to face childbirth as calmly as I did if I hadn’t have done the Hypnobirthing course. It wasn’t that I was scared of childbirth, but having done the course I really felt equipped to deal with whatever might arise. We are incredibly lucky that everything went as smoothly as it did and we now have a healthy, gorgeous little man in our lives! He’s a joy and so far seems to be a very calm happy baby! Thank you so much Sophie for all your help and guidance throughout this process!
