Calm Baby Massage

BM4Calm Baby Courses are so much more than Baby Massage on it’s own.  You will learn how to calm your baby, how to confidently communicate to your baby, how to relax yourself so that you can cope better as a parent, and the importance of listening to your inner voice – your instinct, which you are born with. You will also learn to massage your baby with enjoyment, confidence and trust in yourself and your abilities.

Baby Massage is a natural, ancient tradition from the East that helps to promote infant health, deepen bonding and strengthen family relationships.  Positive, nurturing touch is a wonderful way to help your baby feel safe, secure and loved.  This is an integral time of baby’s early developmental life and Baby Massage can help you to understand your baby’s own way of ‘talking’ to you.

Easy and pleasant to learn and do, Calm Baby Massage provides early positive interaction and strengthens the bond you share.  By helping your baby to relax, you are giving them a life-long tool with long-term benefits.

Benefits

These are just a few of the benefits of massage for you and your baby:

  • Baby/Parent bonding or attachment
  • Makes your baby feel loved
  • Relaxing for both you and your baby
  • Promotes better sleep
  • Helps digestion
  • Relief from colic, teething and growing pains
  • Helps you to understand what you baby is ‘saying’ and thus communicate better
I was worried I’d hurt my baby by massaging wrongly, but now I’m confident, not only in the strokes, but also in my approach/mindset. I liked the holistic outlook – discussing babies and their care as a whole, which was invaluable. I love the one-on-one feeling when my baby looks right at me as I massage her. It’s amazing.

What to expect from a course

BM5It is best to start massaging your baby as early as possible but it’s not too late to learn if your little one is up to 1 year old.  Classes are kept small and last up to 1.5 hours containing an easy-to-learn massage routine for the legs, tummy, chest, arms, face and back, a special colic routine and some simple baby yoga movement.  There is time set aside for discussion on baby-related topics over a cup of tea/coffee and a biscuit.  It’s a good opportunity to socialise with other parents and babies too.  Indeed, many of my past groups have continued meeting after the course has finished.  You will also learn what oils to use & how to create a suitable environment, follow your baby’s cues, massage safely and adapt the massage as your baby grows.

The course is gentle, fun and each week the massage techniques are repeated so that with practice, they soon become like second nature.  You can even teach the rest of your family – and ask them to practice on you too!

A Manual, 50ml bottle of organic sunflower oil, a certificate for your baby and refreshments are all included in the course fee.

What to bring

  • A portable changing mat and/or towel and baby blanket
  • A spare nappy and wipes
  • A favourite comforter/toy if baby has one
  • Comfortable clothes as we will be sitting on the floor

BM1You will be the only one massaging your baby – I use a demonstration doll. Please note, you will be sitting on the floor so wear comfortable clothes – trousers are best. You will be removing your baby’s clothes so bear this in mind when choosing what to dress them in!

If your baby was premature, or has any other special requirements, please let me know at the time of booking. Twins are welcome to join the courses – one set of twins per course can be accommodated at no extra charge. You are welcome to bring your own helper.

I really enjoyed the baby massage course and it has really helped me to bond with my baby and how to deal with her when she is suffering from wind. Sophie was a very good teacher and I really felt relaxed, and comfortable whilst being taught. She helped me feel relaxed and not to worry if my baby cried (or was asleep!) and I loved the way that we were told that the class was purely baby-led, as I think that really helped. I’m really going to miss the classes.
