Gina
I’m Gina, here’s my story…
I’m a Certified Hypnobirthing Practitioner and hypnobirthing mum to a gorgeously happy little boy.
I trained with both the HypnoBirthing Institute and the Hypnobirthing Association, and have good links with birth professionals in South East London, including doulas and the midwifery teams in the local area. I am also coordinator for the Early Pregnancy Open Evenings at Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Woolwich (which commence October 2012), for expectant parents to gain information about their birthing options. I am FEDANT registered and insured, and also volunteer for the NCT as a NCT Local Area Representative.
I came to hypnobirthing in 2009, when I was pregnant for my son. I read the HypnoBirthing book by Marie Mongan, and knew this approach to birth was for me. I then took a hypnobirthing course with my husband and another couple, after completing a different antenatal course. Sophie Burch, founder of Calm Birth Calm Baby, was our hypnobirthing teacher, and her confident guidance and calming approach helped me achieve an amazing ‘zen’ experience of both pregnancy and childbirth. You can read all about my son’s arrival here.
Inspired by both Sophie Burch and the beautiful experience of birthing my son, I went on to train as a hypnobirthing practitioner. I began teaching expectant parents in Spring 2011 and became part of the Calm Birth Calm Baby collective in Spring 2012.
I am passionate about hypnobirthing and helping expectant mothers to have a positive, empowering and beautiful experience of childbirth. I am also committed to raising fathers’ confidence in actively being part of this transformational experience. My aim is to bring hypnobirthing to as many expectant parents as possible, from all backgrounds and walks of life.
My professional background is in higher education, having worked at universities in London since 1998. My BA, MA and PhD degrees are all in English Literature. My teaching and research were mainly in the areas of modern women’s fiction and women’s history. My other professional experience is in web design, which is also one of my creative interests, together with pottery, gardening and cookery.
